About the Conference
EirGrid plc is the independent electricity Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Market Operator in the wholesale electricity trading system system in Ireland and is the owner of the System Operator Northern Ireland (SONI Ltd), the licenced TSO and market operator in Northern Ireland. The Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) is part of the EirGrid Group, and operates the Single Electricity Market on the island of Ireland.
EirGrid's role is to deliver services to all customers including, generators, suppliers and consumers across the high voltage electricity system and via the efficient operation of the wholesale power market. It puts in place the grid infrastructure needed to support competition in energy, to promote economic growth, to facilitate more renewable energy and to provide essential services.
In its role of TSO in Ireland, EirGrid develops, maintains and operates a safe, secure, reliable, economical and efficient transmission system as well as developing key infrastructural projects which are vital for the socio-economic development of the state. The services provided by EirGrid as TSO are vital to all 2.1 million electricity customers nationally.
SONI Ltd has the responsibility of ensuring the safe, secure and economic operation of the high voltage electricity system in Northern Ireland
Each year, EirGrid holds a one-day conference to which customers and stakeholders are invited and which addresses key issues relating to the business of the Transmission System Operator, its customers and stakeholders. The conference is followed by a half-day post-conference workshop, which addresses a more technical theme.
This year, the conference took place on Tuesday 13th October (from 9.00 a.m. - 17.00 p.m.) in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry Demense, Dublin (near Dublin airport), followed by a Reception on the evening of the conference, to which all attendees were invited.
The post-conference workshop took place on Wednesday 14th October (from 9.00am - 1.00pm), in the same venue.
